Elements and Performance Criteria

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

identify and rectify site operating problems on at least two occasions, including:

monitoring plant and equipment performance according to monitoring programs

confirming and clarifying information from others to identify faults, problems or malfunctions

applying diagnostic and fault finding techniques when visually and physically inspecting plant and equipment

determining plant and equipment problems and malfunctions

adjusting plant and equipment to maintain optimum performance and function

identifying plant and equipment problems that require emergency shutdown procedures

rectifying problems within capability and reporting activity

reporting problems outside of capability and performing activities as instructed

reporting on problems and malfunctions

maintaining plant and equipment records.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply relevant documentation, policies and procedures and confirm that the work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for identifying and rectifying site operating problems,

work effectively with others to identify and rectify site operating problems, in a way that meets all required outcomes

communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions and to determine coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and documentation required to identify and rectify site operating problems, including:

operational safety procedures

operational procedures related to processes, plant and equipment carried out by the operator

site communication procedures and systems

plant and equipment maintenance systems and procedures

emergency shutdown procedures

principles and techniques for understanding site processes, plant and equipment, including:

application

characteristics

limitations

programs

interpretations

operator responsibilities

plant layouts

principles and techniques for identifying relevant hazards and emergencies

techniques for coordinating and communicating job activities with others.
